comparitive essay

Louis Lowry’s dystopian novel, “The Giver” and the song “Praying” by Kesha both have similarities and differences in conflicts both internal and external that are quite significant throughout each story line.

Both of them have similarities in pain. For example in the giver “Jonas” is overwhelmed with the pain of figuring out the true dark secrets of his society. In praying she is dealing with the pain of a relationship. In the giver Jonas becomes stronger from his conflict. In praying she becomes stronger from the broken relationship she came out of.

These stories have differences in the circumstances. For example in the giver Jonas has to deal with the whole community and it’s over a life style. In praying she has to deal with an abusive and broken relationship with one other person. In the giver Jonas decides to run away from his entire futuristic society while in the song praying she runs away from her other and comes back to fight versus Jonas running away and never coming back

In conclusion from reading both of these it is obvious to see that both have significant similarities and differences including internal and external conflicts with self and others over pain and heartbreak.

the giver essay

Lois Lowry’s dystopian novel, “The Giver” takes place on planet Earth sometime in the future about the main character Jonas who later in the book get selected as the new receiver of memory for his advanced dystopian society. One lesson you can learn is that memory is very important to life.

introduction to the giver

The Giver, by Lois Lowry, is set in a futuristic dystopian society. Based on the evidence in the text, the place where Jonas lives seems to be a fairly small community. The community is by a river. which it all takes place in the future. The small community is on some other planet or universe.

The eleven-year-old, Sensitive and intelligent, with strange powers of perception that he doesn’t understand, Jonas is chosen to be the new Receiver of Memory for his community when he turns twelve the Giver  (The old man known in the community as the Receiver of Memory). The main problem he faces is that he is given a prestigious apprenticeship where he learns secret information about the society, and he learns that his society does very bad things just to keep everyone comfortable.

Book Bag Rule

BOOK BAG RULE

BY: RYAN MOLLETT

It was just a new school day at Black Hawk middle school. As learners were rapid through the hallways zipping in and out of other teachers and students just to get to their locker. Hauling around their hefty book bag, unable to take it with them, students are getting angry, and being late to classes.

If you were to stay at black hawk middle school, you would notice that children walking in in the morning practically still snoozing in their beds, are struggling to get to their locker and class on time. This is due to the school’s no book bag rule. Which bans the students from taking their book bags to class.

Picture this, your walking into the school carrying a 20 pound book bag on your back while your still half asleep, and you only have four minutes to get to your locker possibly struggle to get it open, then empty all of the stuff you need from your book bag, and then get your heavy books from the top of the locker, then after that struggle to get your oversized book bag into the locker. After all of this get to your class on time which could possibly be on the completely opposite side of the school

Current student Ryan Mollet says, “It is so senseless that we have to go back and forth struggling with dealing with your locker when we could just take our book bags to class so we would have everything with us and nothing would be forgotten”. Many other students feel the same way about this quote “ridiculous rule”.

All though students at Blackhawk middle school are unhappy about the book bag ban set out by the school’s leaders, it is unsure when or even if this ban is ever going to at least change. This Is Ryan Mollett reporting to you from Blackhawk middle school.

newscast: passing period.

Recently for the 2017 school year at Blackhawk Middle school, students have been complaining passing period. At Blackhawk middle school students have exactly 4 minutes to get to their locker, grab their stuff, and go to their next class. It may seem to be enough time to others but to the students it’s too much to expect, and for the students being late because of this limited time period. Most students have classes in the same wing but others have to go on the opposite side of the school and sometimes opposite levels.

StormBreaker

Storm breaker

By: Anthony Horowitz

Dear Mr.Hoering,

Storm breaker is about a 14 year old boy named Alex who is sent into a very dangerous and top secret mission to finish what his uncle started before his uncle died.

I like the main character Alex Rider, because of our age similarities meaning he’s 14 and I’m 13 years old

Alex rider is a very lean and well-built 14 year old boy which is pretty good at his age. His uncle Ian Rider is a top secret spy working for mi-6 but Alex seems to think that his uncle is a bank manager. Throughout his life he has been raised by his uncle which led him to do some training in fighting and intelligence. So this is why I like him because he’s a lot like me.

This book is so much better than any other book I’ve  ever read because of the details and the descriptive pages and the action and reality of the whole plot and setting and story being told. I would recommend this book to a friend because it is a very great book to read.

From the beginning of the course I have improved as a reader my interest and skills and habits have changed from reading a lot of books. What is most suprising to me is how much more fluent I’ve become in reading the words off the page, and understanding words I didn’t understand before. I have not met any of my reading goals yet.

Fist Day of School

The first day of school                                                                                                                                 Ryan Mollett 09/5/17

Ryan Mollet felt nervous smelling the scent of classrooms. as he walked in the school doors at Blackhawk Middle school, on the first day of school august 15 2017.

I am a reader

The last book I read was called “Stormbreaker”. I liked the mystery and then intensity found throughout the whole entire book. At the library i chose the book again because it was so great. Introduction:

They told him his uncle died in an accident, He wasn’t wearing his seat belt, they said. But when 14 year old Alex finds his uncle’s windshield riddled with bullet holes he knows it was no accident. What he doesn’t know yet is that his uncle was killed while on a top-secret mission. But he is about to, and once he does, there is no turning back.

Taken from stormbreaker book.
